St. Patrick's Day rounding the corner reminds of us the color: Green.  Did you know color is a very powerful tool that affects us in many ways?  Most people are drawn to certain colors because they remind them of something comforting, like a special childhood blanket or their favorite gemstone.  Color psychology explains how colors affect our moods, our health, our well-being, our cravings, our mind and even our energy. 

GREEN: Balance, Harmony, Growth

Green means nature.  Green is the color of spring and signifies growth, renewal and rebirth.  It is emotionally positive, a natural peacemaker of balance and harmony.  Green restores us to a sense of well-being, balances the heart and emotions, and is a sanctuary away from the stresses of modern living.  Green is often used in spas and places like waiting rooms because of its calming energy. It can help you feel revitalized when physically, mentally or emotionally exhausted, and not only relax you, but also urge you to nurture yourself and others.

Earlier this year we wrote a blog about the many positive impacts of nature on our well-being (health, social, etc.).  Having plants, going for a nature walk, or even glancing out in your yard can produce psychological benefits that reduce stress and improve concentration.  The presence of plants has even been shown to lower blood pressure, raise productivity, increase attentiveness and lower anxiety.

Green is the obvious natural backdrop in landscapes. Because of its abundance in nature, green is often overlooked as a design detail in landscape.  But there are many different tones and shades of green, and by using them carefully, you can create a variety of different effects in the garden.
